How can I find a vmguest.iso for Windows Server 2003?

I'm running a Windows Server 2003 setup in Hyper-V, and I've suddenly lost mouse control. My keyboard still works, so I can navigate using that, but I noticed there are no drivers for Hyper-V Generation Counter and VMBus in Device Manager. I think I need to install the correct integration services, but I can't find the vmguest.iso for Windows Server 2003 anywhere. I remember the mouse worked just fine until about a week ago, and now it seems like I need this ISO to get control back. Does anyone know where I can find a 2003 version?

I haven't seen a case where mouse control wasn't part of the emulated hardware. Have you tried rebooting the VM? Sometimes, a restart can fix strange issues. Also, check if anything was changed recently in your change control logs. If you’re using an emulated USB tablet instead of a mouse, it might be worth looking at that setup too, as it gives absolute positioning on the screen.

Good luck with that. I've spun up Windows Server 2003 VMs in Hyper-V before, and I remember having similar issues with the mouse control. One thing I've found is the mouse can sometimes act weird, like being vertically inverted. Did you notice the mouse control disappear all of a sudden? Have you thought about reverting to a backup?

I do have a week’s worth of backups for the VHDX file, but I haven’t logged into the VM in over a week, so I’m worried those backups might also be bad. Reverting would also lose days of SQL entries, which is risky.

You might want to check out the Internet Archive. They have links for older Hyper-V vmguest ISOs, including for Windows Server 2003. It could be really helpful!
