I just got this old Acer laptop from 2009 as a replacement for my broken HP from 2019, and it only has 4GB of RAM, which feels way too little for my needs. I tried using the Crucial scanner to find compatible RAM upgrades, but it couldn't find a match and showed a 'no system match was found' message. Since I'm pretty new to all this, I'm wondering if there's a way to find compatible RAM on my own or if there's a different tool that works better for older laptops. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Some Acer laptops have soldered RAM meaning they can't be upgraded at all. I suggest checking your specific model first to see if RAM upgrades are possible. If you're able to access the RAM by taking off the cover, you can check the manufacturer sticker on it to find out more about the type you need.
eBay is my go-to for upgrading RAM in older machines. A lot of people buy old laptops and desktops just to sell the parts, including memory chips. Just make sure to search using your exact model number for the best results. Keep in mind, there’s a bit of risk with used parts, but I’ve had great luck with secondhand RAM!
