I accidentally messed up my son's PlayStation 5 external storage when I pulled everything out from the wall during an argument. Now, after the grounding is over, he can't access any of his games. He can see them in his library, but no matter how many times he deletes and re-downloads them, the games are still inaccessible. He's tried some YouTube fixes but nothing has worked. I called data recovery services, and they quoted me between $500 and $2000. Does anyone know a cheaper or easier way to resolve this issue? I didn't intend for his games that he's accumulated over six years to be part of his punishment.

One person mentioned that when they had a similar issue, they just left their PS5 on for a while with the external drive plugged in. It took a bit of time, but the system was able to check and repair the drive automatically.
What type of external drive are you using? If it's one of the official PlayStation drives, it's likely a 1TB model. If it wasn’t a hard yank that broke anything, you might want to check for any physical damage. It could just need a gentle connection or resetting. Also, have you thought about contacting PlayStation support? Your warranty might be expired, but they could have additional troubleshooting tips.

It's a PlayStation drive, around 1TB but not full. The yank wasn’t super violent, just enough to disconnect everything. I was frustrated and unplugged it from the PS5 and laid it on the table while I took the console. I’ll consider calling for help!
