I have a Lenovo ThinkPad that was provided by my previous employer. After I left the company, I kept the laptop but I've never used it since. Now that I'm trying to boot it up, I can't access it because I don't have any credentials, and I also can't contact the company to retrieve them. To make matters worse, the USB ports are disabled. Is there a way to format this laptop and use it for my personal tasks?

If you're looking to install Windows 11, you could try downloading an installer on another computer and creating a USB. But keep in mind, if the USB ports are locked, it might just end up being a paperweight.
Assuming it's on their MDM, you won't get far without the right credentials. However, if you can install a Linux OS, that might bypass some checks since not all software would track it the same way.
Even though you don’t work there anymore, you might have a friend or contact in that company. Perhaps reach out to their HR department? Since the laptop is technically yours now, they might help you unlock it from their management system.
It's tough to say without more details about what happens when you power it on. If it's locked down with something like Computrace or a BIOS password, it might be rendered pretty useless. You could potentially salvage some parts, but be prepared that the motherboard could be locked as well.
If the laptop is still registered under their Mobile Device Management (MDM), even a factory reset might not free it up. It could lock back down as soon as it connects to any network.
