I'm trying to update my 2023 MacBook Air, but I don't have enough free storage to do so. I have a bit of a tech background, but I'm not very savvy with this. I need about 25.37 GB to proceed with the update for my tax prep software. Can anyone help me figure out how to free up space or manage my data? Thanks in advance!

You don’t actually need an extra hard drive to update your MacBook. The necessary storage for updates is internal. Just go to the Apple menu and select System Settings, then General, and click on Software Update. If your disk space is low, you might want to delete some files or apps you don't need anymore.
To check what's eating up space on your MacBook, go to the Apple logo in the corner, then System Preferences, followed by General and Storage. Click the info icon to see a breakdown of what's taking up your space. That should give you a clear idea of what you can manage or delete to free up some data.
Since you mentioned you're using almost all of your available space, try to locate large files or apps that you can remove. You can also consider transferring some of your documents to an external drive or using cloud storage to clear some space.
