I'm trying to reinitialize my laptop, which is about 8-10 years old, to give it a clean slate by removing all my files. However, Windows won't let me proceed because there's not enough space available. I have a maximum of 28 GB of storage on the boot drive, but only 7 GB is free after deleting non-system files. I'm currently attempting to reset it without choosing the 'remove everything' option, hoping this will do the trick. Additionally, I'm curious about how to reduce the space taken up by system files since the laptop is running quite slowly. I mostly plan to use it for web browsing and learning basic coding like HTML and CSS. Any advice on what steps I should take to make the laptop functional and create more space would be greatly appreciated!

If upgrading isn't feasible right now, try using a lightweight version of Windows, or consider a clean install of a different OS like Linux. These options can help manage the limited space more efficiently. Also, doing a manual delete of old files or unnecessary software might free up some additional space. Just make sure to back up anything important first!
It sounds like your hard drive is just not big enough for a full reset. With only 28 GB available, you're really tight on space. You might consider upgrading to an SSD, which could make a noticeable difference in speed and storage. No need to spend too much; even a cheap 128GB SSD will boost performance!

I might look into that! Do you think there's guidance out there for how to swap out an SSD on a laptop?
