How Can I Get a Job as a Software Engineer?

Hey everyone! I'm a software engineer who graduated about a year ago, and it's been really tough for me to land a job lately. I've applied to tons of places, even though I recently won first place in the LCPC 2024 (the ICPC for Libya). I've also built several projects, including a voucher management system for a small company and a social media management app that uses AI to connect and manage posts across various platforms. Despite my efforts and accomplishments, I'm feeling frustrated and wondering how many projects I need to complete before I can get hired. I'm open to any advice on finding job opportunities, whether it's a full-time position, volunteer work, or just getting involved with the tech community. Thanks!

Have you checked if there are any local tech conferences? Networking can really help! Also, reconnect with any former classmates; they might know of open positions or could give you a recommendation. Are you hearing back from employers at all? Making it to interviews but not getting offers can be disheartening, so some feedback may guide you moving forward.

Keep in mind, there are hundreds of applications for each job. Even if you're an excellent candidate, chances are someone else is just slightly better, and they’ll get picked instead. It’s really about applying to as many jobs as possible to increase your chances.

Consider coding in public and being more vocal about your work. Meet new people; some may be looking for solutions to their issues, and if you stand out, that could lead to job opportunities!

One cheeky method is to drop your resume directly at the CEO's office. It’s a bold move, but it can definitely get you noticed!

Thanks for the advice! It gets a bit boring doing the same routine of learning, building projects, and updating my CV while applying constantly. I’m starting to lose hope, LOL!

It seems like a lot of hiring might be happening through connections. Try to immerse yourself in the tech scene—get noticed! Since you already have cool projects under your belt, do some research on your own. Who says you can’t make an impact independently?
