How Can I Get My Linux PC to Output Sound to My TV via HDMI?

I'm trying to connect my PC to my TV to play media, but I'm having some trouble with the sound. I've already tested an old laptop and a mini PC, but neither would output sound over HDMI. I've experimented with a few different Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, and Mint, but they all seem to have the same issue. Does anyone have any advice or solutions?

I experienced the same issue on Linux Mint, but after installing a better audio management app, I was able to reroute my sound through HDMI. It might just be a matter of getting the right audio drivers installed!

I had the same problem until I realized I needed to select HDMI as the output device in the sound control panel. Once I did that, everything worked fine!

I bought a budget AMD mini PC and I use Solus Plasma on it for streaming and gaming. I've had zero issues with sound output to my TV after four years of use! It might just be a matter of finding the right setup for your specific hardware.

I've never faced this issue with multiple Linux distros either; they usually work seamlessly with HDMI. It might be worth checking if there's a specific config needed for your TV or potentially even a compatibility issue.

That's interesting! Maybe I'll look into my TV's settings to see if there's anything I can adjust.

It sounds like you probably just needed to switch your sound settings to the HDMI output. This is a common issue across various Linux distributions and hardware, so don't worry too much about it!
