How Can I Get My Website Back from My Developer’s Server?

I've been working with a good web development company for a couple of years now, and they moved my website to their server. While I appreciate the work they've done, I've been trying to get my site moved back for the past two years, but there seems to be no progress. I suspect this is part of their marketing strategy, but I never agreed to that. Plus, I don't have the technical skills to manage the site myself. What steps do I need to take to get my website back? Thanks in advance for any help!

You might want to check the contract you signed with them. Sometimes it has stipulations about hosting. A gentle reminder to them about the contract can be a good start.

Unfortunately, the contract doesn’t mention anything about hosting.

Is your site static? If you control the domain name, you could save all your files and upload them to a different server, then just point your domain to this new location. That's assuming you indeed have domain control!

Yes, I control the domain and I was moved from my original host that I'm still paying for. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like they want to keep charging you for hosting. I'd suggest sending them a formal email requesting the move. Also, it's been two years, so you might want to consider acting sooner next time.
