How Can I Help My Dad Stream YouTube Videos Without Buffering?

I'm trying to help my elderly father who has a pretty old computer (a Dell OptiPlex 330) running Windows 10. He mostly uses Chrome to watch his videos on YouTube, but he experiences long buffering times, sometimes up to 3 minutes! Given his specs and the fact he's only running Chrome, I'm wondering if there are ways to improve his streaming experience. Here are the system specs: 3GB of DDR2 RAM, a Core2Duo processor, and it looks like all he really does is watch videos. Any suggestions?

Yeah, considering the age of that machine, grabbing a refurbished PC might be smarter. If he insists on keeping it, adding an SSD and at least 4GB of RAM could help a lot. It would definitely provide a speed boost for streaming.

Honestly, that PC is pretty dated with just 3GB of RAM and a Core2Duo processor. Chrome can be pretty resource-demanding, and that's probably why the buffering is so bad. You have a couple of options: either get a new system (which might be the best move) or upgrade his current setup with an SSD and see if you can squeeze in some more RAM if the motherboard supports it. It's not ideal, but it might help.

Just how outdated is it? I mean, even a cheap smartphone these days outperforms those specs.

Yeah, for sure! Even a budget PC would be worlds better than that old setup.

Just a suggestion—what if he tries to watch more left-wing videos? I hear they stream better! 😂

Honestly, can’t he just watch something else? Can’t see the big deal if he's buffering on right-wing videos, there are plenty of other sources to check out!

With only 3GB of RAM, any chance you could upgrade that? It might make a difference. Otherwise, consider disabling any unnecessary browser extensions that could improve Chrome’s performance.

Also, using uBlock Origin could help speed things up by blocking unwanted ads, but just be prepared for your dad to notice ads gone!

I personally won’t help anyone stream extremist content, though. Just a thought.
