I'm using an HP laptop that has been passed down through three people, and it's running super slow. We had it repaired a while back, but it still lags a lot. I don't have many applications installed—just 15 total—and it has Windows 11. As far as I know, there are no pending updates. Does anyone have advice on how I can speed it up and maintain better performance, instead of having it work well one day and poorly the next?

It might help to start with a clean slate. Since your laptop has been used by multiple people, a fresh installation of Windows could clear out any clutter that's built up over time. If it's still using a traditional hard drive (HDD), switching to a solid-state drive (SSD) could also dramatically speed things up. Just keep in mind that we’d need to know the model and specifications for more tailored advice.
Definitely need to know your laptop's specs—like how much RAM and what kind of CPU it has. Also, check what repair was done before. In general, to speed things up: try to uninstall unnecessary background programs, consider upgrading your RAM (8GB is usually good), and think about getting an SSD to replace the HDD.
It can be tricky without knowing the actual specs! Make sure you're not running too many programs at once. Cleaning out any apps you don't use can help too. If possible, share the specifications of your laptop, as that would really help us give you better suggestions.
