How Can I Improve My PC’s Performance After Upgrading My GPU?

I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 1650 to an RTX 5070TI, a pretty significant leap! My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, 16GB of RAM (2x8GB), and an ASUS ROG Strix B550 Gaming WiFi II motherboard, plus I'm using a 1440p 170Hz monitor. I've upgraded my PC slowly over the past three years, and this was my final big GPU upgrade. I'm curious about two things: First, would adding a 16GB RAM stick to my existing 2x8GB configuration help improve FPS and overall gaming performance? I've heard about Flex Mode, but I'm not sure if it would ultimately slow down performance compared to sticking with 2x8GB. Second, after installing the RTX 5070TI, I've been able to run games like ARC RAIDERS that I couldn't play before, but my FPS is only around 70-90 on high settings, while Google suggests it should be hitting 140+. I've checked my settings and updated my drivers, but I still need help understanding potential causes, including RAM resets and BIOS settings.

It really depends on how much RAM you actually need. If 16GB is enough for your gaming needs, adding a 1x16GB stick could actually slow you down due to Flex Mode. It's usually better to stick with the 2x8GB setup if you're within that limit. As for your FPS, check your GPU and CPU usage during gameplay; it could give you more insights.

Got it! Just to clarify, my GPU usually runs at about 60-80% usage, while my CPU varies but generally runs high. I've also improved my background processes with CCleaner. I’ll run some tests to get exact numbers.

Don't trust everything you find on Google about ARC RAIDERS. With your 5070TI, you should see around 100-120 FPS at 1440p on high settings without ray tracing. Make sure your RAM is running at its advertised speeds and check if DLSS is enabled for better performance. You can tweak settings there for better frame rates without losing much quality.

Thanks! How do I check if my RAM is overclocked? Also, is it safe to overclock my 5070TI?

For optimal performance, I'd recommend getting another kit of 2x8GB RAM instead of a single 16GB stick. It should provide better performance overall without the risk of Flex Mode messing things up.

I might consider selling the 1x16GB stick since it's got good resale value. Thanks for the advice!
