I'm having trouble with my PS4's WiFi connection. It's connected to my home network, but even though it's only a couple of rooms away from the router, the ping is around 80, which is pretty bad for gaming. I can't use an ethernet cable because I don't want to drill any holes or run wires through the house. I'm considering getting a WiFi extender, but I'm not sure whether I need a booster or an extender, and what good options are out there. Any suggestions?

When it comes to home networking, keep it simple. The ideal setup is a direct ethernet cable from your PS4 to your router, but since that's not an option for you, a WiFi extender might help.
First, check how strong your WiFi connection is. If other devices like your phone are working well, then it might not be the WiFi causing the ping issues. Use a laptop or phone to ping a fast site and compare that to what your PS4 is showing.
Consider going for a mesh WiFi system like TP-Link Deco. They're great for eliminating dead spots and providing a more consistent signal across your home.
Try to ensure your PS4 is connected to the 5GHz band of your router, as it generally has better performance for gaming. If you have coax connections, you could think of using MoCA adapters to set up an access point, or explore powerline adapters, but check compatibility with your circuits first.
Make sure the setup allows for the clearest path between your router and PS4. If there are walls between them, try to find a positioning that minimizes the interference. Yeah, I get that, but running a cable is not feasible for me. I want to explore the extender option instead.
