I manage a location that currently only has DSL available while waiting for a fiber line installation. The speeds are really slow—300ms ping with only 8 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up—which is a nightmare with around 20 computers and 20 phones connected. We're heavily relying on a browser-based application, and it's making work nearly impossible. Is there any way to improve this situation, at least temporarily? Could something like a Squid server or a proxy help? I'm looking for open-source solutions or any quick fixes that might last a week or two during this transition.

Consider limiting your network traffic to essentials only—use firewall rules to prioritize important applications. This could give you a minor improvement, although it's not a complete fix. Alternatively, you might want to look into ordering additional DSL lines or even a point-to-point wireless setup if there's a location with better internet nearby.
Another option is to check out Cradlepoint devices that can provide backup connectivity. We’ve had success with one that uses an ATT sim, giving us speeds around 100 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. It could be worth looking into for a temporary solution!
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to speed up your current DSL connection. The best choices would be to look into other options like StarLink or LTE/5G. Both can be unreliable but might help, especially if you need something quickly. If you can deal with the wait, fiber is definitely the way to go!
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check out Cradlepoint for possible backup solutions.
