How can I keep the same flow between different ChatGPT chats?

I'm working on a project and I've run into an issue where my ChatGPT conversations become sluggish when they get too long. I've tried copying the entire conversation into a new chat using a .txt file, but I still find there are gaps in the continuity of the discussion. Is there a technique or a kind of master prompt that can help in maintaining the same personality and context when switching chats? I'd love to get some ideas on how to make that transition smoother.

To maintain continuity, I suggest creating summary documents throughout your discussions. It’s best to compile the relevant details along the way manually. If you let ChatGPT create the summaries, make sure to proofread them carefully to ensure no important information is missing. Then you can either upload the document or paste the chat transcript into a new conversation, though keep in mind ChatGPT might misinterpret some of the context from the transcript. If you're a pro user, consider setting up a custom GPT with your training documents to maintain context better.

I actually built an AI buddy that I chat with daily! If you explain your needs, I might be able to offer some specific pointers based on my experience.

What exactly are you looking to achieve when you mention 'continuity of consciousness'? Are you trying to transfer the memory or simply the way it behaves? Clarifying that could help find a more specific solution to your problem.

For me, I just start a new chat and let ChatGPT know I'm continuing from a previous topic. I ask if it can remember the content, and it usually manages to keep up thanks to its long-term memory features. I recommend just saying something like, 'Let’s keep going with...' when you start a new chat. Make sure to check if this feature is available in your country, as it's a newer functionality.
