How can I lower my RTX 3070 Ti temperatures during stress tests?

I'm experiencing high temperatures with my GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Eagle 8G. During a FurMark stress test, my GPU consistently hits around 96-97 degrees Celsius. I've already replaced the thermal pads and reapplied thermal paste but haven't seen any improvement. The fans ramp up to max speed but don't manage to bring the temperatures down. I used to have an issue where the fans would briefly double their max speed but that's resolved now. What steps can I take to improve my cooling situation?

It sounds like you might have a heatsink contact or mounting pressure issue. Make sure your thermal pads are the right thickness and check that everything is securely tightened. If your idle temps are fine but skyrocket under load, that could be an indication of a load transfer issue. Also, give the card a gentle shake to see if you can hear any rattling from detached heat pipes. Check your power draw too; if it’s high, that might be causing the overheating.

No one asked about your case yet! Just a heads up, if you're on a test bench, try running some tests with and without the side panel on your case. It could help some with airflow. Also, how's the VRAM and core temperature when you repaste? Make sure everything’s covered well!

I tested it on a bench with no case at all, temp changes were only about 2-3 degrees. So no case isn't the main issue.

Have you tried undervolting your GPU? It really helped lower my temperatures on a similar model without sacrificing performance. You might notice some spikes, but they usually happen only briefly before it stabilizes. Worth a shot!
