How can I make GRUB remember the last selected OS in a dual boot setup?

I'm having a tough time with my dual boot setup and can't get GRUB to remember the last OS I booted into. I've been struggling with this for hours and tried editing the GRUB configuration file, but nothing seems to work. I have Windows 11 and Ubuntu 25.10, and my drive is split, but it's not on two separate drives. Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

To help diagnose the issue, can you share which filesystem you're using and details about the specific files you modified? Knowing more will help us assist you better.

I recommend checking out a guide on dual boot setups for some insights. It might provide comparisons or specific steps that could solve your issue. Here’s one I found: [Dual Boot Linux Windows Guide](https://linuxblog.io/dual-boot-linux-windows-install-guide/).
