How can I make my HDD’s data irrecoverable without physical damage?

So, here's the situation. I borrowed my brother's HDD for personal use, and let's just say it ended up containing some sensitive files. The computer I was using to access it has now broken down, and I can't format the drive to erase the data. I'm looking for a way to make the data on this HDD completely irrecoverable without physically destroying it. Any suggestions?

You've got a couple of options here. First, if you can connect the HDD to another computer, you can use secure erase tools like DBAN to wipe the data. It overwrites your files multiple times, making recovery nearly impossible. If that's not an option, I guess you could go with drilling holes, but that's definitely physical damage and not what you're looking for.

Drilling would indeed be physical damage, right?
