How Can I Make the Most of My 2007 Asus X51RL Running Linux Mint Xfce?

I recently got my hands on a 2007 Asus X51RL, which currently runs Windows 7. I'm planning to install Linux Mint with the Xfce desktop environment since Cinnamon is too resource-heavy for this machine. I've already upgraded it with a 500GB Samsung SSD but ran into some trouble with memory upgrades. I bought two 2GB DDR2 RAM modules that turned out to be incompatible and caused a system halt error. I switched back to the original 1GB RAM sticks, and now everything works fine. While the Mint installation runs smoothly, I find that using Firefox and streaming on YouTube is pretty much impossible due to performance issues. I'm looking for suggestions on what I can still do with this old laptop and maybe some creative ideas to inspire me.

You could consider setting it up as a Pi-hole for ad-blocking or maybe dive into some retro gaming with emulators like Zsnes and PCSX. It’s great for creating a basic wireless infrastructure too!

You can definitely do a lot with it, just keep in mind it will be slower. Think lightweight game development, programming, or even setting it up as a basic web server. There are options, just not the most demanding tasks!

True! Gaming is still an option, as long as you stick to less demanding titles. For videos, forget about 1080p, but you might be able to check out some lighter formats. Comics should work fine!
