How Can I Quickly Check Which Devices Need Updates?

I'm looking for an efficient way to determine which client machines need updates across my network. It often feels overwhelming as I seem to spend too much time guessing and checking each device individually. Is there a better method or tool I can use to have instant visibility into their update statuses?

We have all our client machines set to auto-update. We also remind users to reboot if they forget. This policy has worked perfectly for us—no update issues in a decade! The key is to keep the systems as standard as possible and avoid complicating things with unnecessary tweaks.

Using Azure ARC with Azure Update Manager is a solid choice. Keep in mind that WSUS has been deprecated for over a year now. While you can still use it, Microsoft isn't investing in improvements. You might want to check out some third-party RMM tools as alternatives—they can be really helpful.

To manage updates effectively, you should implement proper inventory management. If you're mainly using Windows, WSUS is one option, but tools like Lansweeper can scan and report update statuses across your entire network. Once you have visibility, you can strategically plan updates instead of chasing random machines.

Agreed! Having a clear inventory really changes the game. It saves so much time!

You might want to consider investing in a Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tool. Options like NinjaOne, ConnectWise, or N-Central can streamline the update process and give you more control.

Does your current system not have some built-in reporting features? That would make this much easier, right?
