How Can I Quickly Learn Database Creation for My Biotech Job?

Hey everyone, I've been working in biotech for about a year now, and while I've primarily been handling pipettes and similar tasks, I've recently started on a project to create a database. Our data integrity is really lacking, and when our supervisor brought up the idea, I jumped in, but now it's taking up way more of my time than I expected. I've managed to cobble something together using AI and learned a bit along the way, but I want to truly understand what's going on. What's the fastest way for me to learn about database creation? I'm currently using Power Query M code for this. Thanks!

First off, forget about the suggestions to learn SQL and Python if you're focused on using Microsoft tools. It sounds like your work is more aligned with Power BI and Excel. What are you aiming to create? Is it a relational database, NoSQL, or just handling Excel sheets? Each of those has different learning curves. You might find specific discussions in certain online forums helpful, especially regarding what you need to learn.

Our startup isn't super structured, but I want to build something that lasts. We're dealing with data from multiple Excel sheets and PDFs, and it gets messy trying to manage everything. I’m thinking of creating a folder query to consolidate and visualize everything in Power BI. SQL has been mentioned, but that feels out of reach based on our budget. I’ve set up a system to extract and combine data into Excel tables, then visualize that in Power BI. I know practice is key, but I’d love to know if there’s more I should focus on.

It sounds like you're on the right track! Just ensure you get familiar with the data structures and relationships in your Excel files before diving deeper. A solid grasp of relational concepts will help you immensely.
