I really need some help! I think I accidentally deleted a file that contains all of my life's work while trying to free up space on my Google Drive. I cleared my trash, and I'm freaking out because this happened less than 24 hours ago. Is there any way to recover it?

Hey, don’t worry too much just yet! Just double-check your Drive's Trash. If it’s completely gone, you definitely want to contact Google right away. They might be able to help you get it back if it was indeed deleted recently. It’s stressful, I know, but with a bit of luck and the right steps, you might recover it! Also, maybe consider setting up a backup plan for the future so this doesn’t happen again!

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll check the trash now as you suggested. I’m just really scared to lose it.

Definitely check your Trash! I had a similar scare last month, and thankfully, I managed to restore mine!

It’s urgent that you act quickly! If you emptied your Google Drive’s Trash within the last day, there’s still hope. First, check the Trash folder and sort by the date you trashed items. If you see your file, just restore it. If the Trash is emptied, your next step should be to submit a file-recovery request through the Google Drive Help Center. When you do that, keep it short and mention the filename, the approximate time you deleted it, and that it was less than 24 hours ago. If you’re using a work or school account, make sure to ask your Google Workspace admin for help since they can recover items even after they’re permanently deleted for up to 25 days! Good luck!
