How can I recover corrupted JPG files from a CD?

I've transferred all my camera's files onto a CD, but now I can't open them. To make matters worse, I've deleted the originals from my camera, so I can't retrieve them there. The photos are incredibly important to me! When I try to access the CD, I get a message that says "looks like we don't have this format," and I'm on Windows. I'm looking for a free way to fix this—no subscriptions or reference images, please!

It sounds like a tricky situation! First, have you checked if the files are showing up on the CD? If you see them, try transferring the files back to your camera or directly to your PC. If that doesn't work, we might need a different approach. It could be that the CD didn't actually store the images correctly, so double-check the file sizes in File Explorer. They should match the camera's resolution. If they're super small, like 1 KB, that could indicate you only saved shortcuts instead of the actual images.

Totally understand being on a budget, but some solutions might require small fees. Still, if you're really trying to avoid costs, make sure to search for free file recovery tools. There are programs out there that could help, and some might have free trials. But if you've already made mistakes, it's a hard lesson learned. Just double-check what you have, and definitely look for any recovery options!

I get that these pictures mean a lot to you, but it's surprising you didn’t check the files after burning them onto the CD. If any images were viewable before, check if the sizes look right—suddenly small sizes could mean you might not have copied the images properly. If you have a tight budget, consider looking for free recovery software online. A few can help if the images aren't too deeply corrupted!
