I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of a CD drive that appears on my laptop when I plugged in a broken USB stick. I don't have any disk virtualization software installed, so I'm a bit confused about how this happened. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Another option is to just restart your laptop after unmounting. Most times, it clears out those phantom drives by itself without needing additional steps.
It looks like that drive showed up because you connected the USB stick. You can just right-click on it and select 'Unmount' to get rid of it. Windows can manage this on its own since version 8, so no need for any extra software. That should do the trick!

Yeah, and if that doesn't work, just try rebooting your laptop. It should clear up any ghost drives automatically.
