How Can I Remove Activation Lock on This iPhone 13?

I recently got an iPhone 13 from a friend, but it's still activation locked because they lent it to someone else. They called that person earlier today to have them remove it from their iCloud, and they were told it was done. However, when we checked the phone a couple of hours later, it was still locked. I'm not sure how to bring this up again with my friend without feeling awkward. I already contacted Apple for assistance, but since my friend doesn't have the original receipt, they didn't help much, even though we provided purchase info like where and when it was bought. Should I just ask my friend to call the person again and confirm if they really removed the device from their iCloud? Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

Yeah, doing a hard reset might be what you're looking for. It’s a common method to refresh the network connection and might help in updating the status with Apple’s servers. Just hold down the power and volume buttons until the Apple logo comes up, and see if that clears up the issue!

Have you tried restarting the activation process? Sometimes that helps in checking the Find My status, which is key for triggering the activation lock. Just turning it off and on can make a difference, so definitely give that a shot.
