I clicked on a questionable link and now I think my PC might be hacked. It's been stressful, and I'm worried because I have important documents on there. I need help removing any malware and ensuring that I can secure my accounts since it feels like the hacker can access everything I do. What steps can I take to clean my computer and keep my information safe?

Make sure to change all of your passwords from a different computer. Also, enable two-factor authentication on all your accounts to add another layer of protection. If you can, create a Windows installation medium so you can reinstall Windows if it comes to that.

Don’t use the hacked PC to go online until you’ve resolved the issue! Consider booting from a Live CD like Hiren's Boot CD or Ubuntu. This will allow you to access your files in a safe environment without the malware. For removal, download an antivirus like Avast from another computer, then install it on the infected one to scan for threats. Just be sure not to connect to the internet until you’ve cleaned it up!

First, try running a malware scan with Malwarebytes. It’s a solid option for detecting and removing malware. After that, if you can, change all your passwords and enable two-factor authentication for extra security. If changing your passwords isn't possible right now, make this a lesson learned and consider always backing up your important files in the future.

Definitely disconnect from the internet immediately. This will help prevent any further unauthorized access while you clean up your system. Once you're offline, scan with an antivirus and consider reinstalling your operating system if things are really bad.
