How can I retrieve data from my dead Pixel 7a screen?

I recently upgraded my Pixel 7a because the screen died, but the phone still powers on and responds to touch. The issue is that the screen is completely dead, so I can't see anything. I know there are HDMI to USB-C options available, but I'm hoping to find a free method to access my screen or at least a way to get into developer mode. I need to retrieve pictures and messages, so I really need a solution that allows me to interact with the device somehow. Any suggestions?

It's tough to retrieve data without using any tools, but you could try to install a screen mirroring app. If you can remember the layout of your phone, you might be able to set it up to stream over Wi-Fi. Just keep in mind it can be tricky without visual feedback, especially if you don't remember much about the phone after not using it for a while.

Unfortunately, those Pixel models don’t support displaying content over USB-C. If your touch screen still works, you might want to see if you can use Chromecast to cast your screen to a compatible TV. If that’s not possible, your best bet may just be connecting it to your computer to access the data directly.
