How can I run an old program on my new computer without hassle?

Hi everyone! I have a bit of a frustrating situation and could use some advice. I recently invested in an $8,000 program for my clients, but the software company wants $1,500 a year for support. I opted out of that, which means I can't transfer the license from my old Surface Pro 9 to my new HP OmniDesk.

I want to keep the Surface since I need it for the software, but it's been crashing a lot, and unplugging all my peripherals every time I want to use the program is a real hassle. Is there a way to connect the Surface to the OmniDesk for easier access, like running both side by side? Or would remote desktop programs like TeamViewer or AnyViewer work better for this? I'd love to hear any other suggestions too! Thank you!

Consider getting a docking station for your peripherals. It makes switching between computers as easy as one cable. Remote desktop can work, too, but it might take longer to log in than just swapping a cable. If your computers are far apart, remoting might be the way to go. Just remember, your Surface might not last forever, so it’s worth looking for a cheaper alternative to your software.

I see what you mean. I usually have multiple documents open and I’m worried my Surface can't handle it. Remoting could be a better option for me. I’ll also start checking for alternatives—thanks!

You can't just plug the Surface into your OmniDesk and expect it to work. But you can use remote desktop software like TeamViewer or AnyViewer to access the Surface from your OmniDesk. Another option is getting a KVM switch, which allows you to connect both computers to your monitors and peripherals and switch between them easily.

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed to know. I think I’ll go with the KVM switch if remote desktop doesn’t work well for me.
