How can I safely check the hardware inside my prebuilt PC?

Hey everyone! I've been dealing with some unstable wifi issues ever since I got my prebuilt PC. I suspect it could be a hardware problem, possibly related to the protective foam I removed during setup. I'm a bit anxious about opening it up, though. What steps should I take to do this safely? I know I need to shut down and unplug the power source, but I'm not sure what else to consider to avoid damaging the hardware or shocking myself. Any tips would be appreciated!

To start, just unscrew the screws and take off the cover. It's usually pretty straightforward. Just make sure you’ve powered it down and unplugged it first!

Definitely unplug it from the wall to avoid any accidents. Better to be safe than sorry!

Make sure your prebuilt came with antennas to screw in for wifi. Sometimes that’s all it takes to fix the problem!

When opening your PC, make sure to turn off the power supply and physically unplug it too! Using an anti-static wristband is a smart move before you start. If you don’t have that, just touch the case with your bare skin to discharge any static. Avoid touching anything with static electricity since it can fry your components.

If you're worried about breaking something while checking, you could also buy a USB wifi adapter as a simple fix instead.

It's a good idea to take some pictures before you start touching things. That way, you'll know how to put everything back together later. Just a heads up, though: if you're having wifi issues, it's worth noting that the wifi component is often integrated into the motherboard. Replacing that means you'd probably have to do a full rebuild.
