I've come across this annoying tech support page that claims my computer has a virus and prompts me to call an 800 number. What can I do to get out of this situation without just shutting down my computer? Are there any quick methods to close that page?

If you're using Windows, the best move is to disconnect your internet to stop any back-and-forth with that scam page. After that, run Windows Defender or MalwareBytes to check for malware.

I usually just Alt + Tab to switch to a different screen or hit Alt + F4 to close the window. If all else fails, holding down the power button will force shutdown the computer, but it's better to avoid that if you can!

Yeah, I often use Alt + F4 too! And for a more advanced fix, using PowerShell can be handy to force-close the browser.

If you're able to, try hitting F11 for full screen or Ctrl + Alt + Del to access Task Manager. From there, you can close the suspicious browser tab or app. Just be careful not to click on anything on that page!
