How Can I Safely Return a Borrowed Windows 11 Computer and Remove My Personal Data?

I've been borrowing a Windows 11 computer for about two months and plan to return it this week. I'm currently using a local account and have installed some programs and logged into various websites, including a few where I have personal accounts. I want to ensure that my data is secure when I return the laptop. What steps should I take to clean up my personal information while keeping the system functional for the next user? I'm considering just wiping the disk if it comes down to it, but I'd prefer to avoid that if possible. Would removing my local account through another admin account suffice? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just reset the computer and select the option to not keep any of your data. This will neatly remove everything you've done. It's a quick way to ensure a fresh start for whoever uses it next!

Honestly, I’m surprised they let you have an account that allows software installations. Normally, you’d think they would manage that better. Just make sure to uninstall anything you added, back up any important files online if needed, clear your browser caches, and empty the recycling bin. That should cover your bases!

If you remove your local account, that should clear out your browsing data and files saved in your user folders like downloads and documents. Plus, other users won’t be affected. You might consider uninstalling any programs you added to save space, but it’s not strictly necessary. If it were me, I’d just wipe it all clean when I got it back, but if it’s still usable, that’s great too!
