How Can I Safely Wipe an Old Hard Drive Without Connecting It to My New PC?

I just got a new PC that has two 250GB hard drives, but I also have a 1TB hard drive from an old gaming laptop. I suspect this drive is filled with malware and unwanted software from my previous time as a sailor. I'm looking for a way, preferably free, to completely wipe this hard drive without risking any malware spreading to my new PC. What are my options?

What you need is ShredOS! Just install it on a USB stick, and only connect the infected drive along with the USB to your machine. It’s a pretty effective tool for this kind of thing.

You should boot from a Linux live environment to format or wipe the drive. If you're really worried about any potential threats, you can remove your Windows drives before doing this. It's a solid way to keep things safe!

Totally agree! That's the best way to ensure nothing harmful spreads.

If you're super cautious, just plug the drive into your computer and format it, but disable previews to avoid accidental openings. The risk of malware spreading just by connecting isn't as high as in the movies!

Honestly, just use a USB flash drive with ShredOS on it, fully disconnect your main system drives, and wipe your 1TB drive that way. It’s safe and should do the trick!
