How can I securely hide or password-protect folders on my hard drive before lending it out?

I have a 1.5 TB hard drive filled with about 1 TB of personal data that I need to lend to a friend for some work. I'm worried about keeping my data private and want to know the best ways to securely hide or lock certain folders. I need a solution that's reliable—just hiding folders won't cut it. I'm using Windows, so I'm looking for recommendations on tools or methods that can help me with this.

Encryption is your best bet here. If it were me, I wouldn't trust my data with someone else without some sort of security. You could create a security backup of your system and then reinstall Windows—just make sure to restore everything once you get the drive back. But keep in mind you’ll need some extra space to create an encrypted container for your files since you might be tight on space.

Honestly, if you're super concerned, I wouldn't lend it at all. But if you have to, consider partitioning your drive and using BitLocker to encrypt the sensitive data. Just be cautious—if you misplace the encryption key, you could lose access to your files.

You might want to think about just getting a separate external drive and copying what your friend needs onto that instead. It's a safer option and eliminates the need for all this hassle with hiding files.
