I'm having a serious issue with my MSI GE76 Raider laptop. It's got a persistent cryptojacker virus that runs Bitcoin mining scripts, and keeps my GPU maxed out whenever it's online. To keep things safe, I have to keep it in airplane mode all the time. I want to do a fresh installation of Linux and securely wipe the drive, but I'm stuck. I've got a USB drive that has Ubuntu on it, but I'm struggling to get UEFI settings to allow me to boot from it. I've disabled secure boot and set a BIOS password, but UEFI remains greyed out. It's been two weeks of frustration, and I'm at my wits' end. Any advice?

I think I made some headway with my laptop! I’ll check back in about 20 minutes with an update.
Just to clarify, you can't boot from the USB drive you made right? Can you tell me how you set it up? It might be an issue with how you flashed it—maybe you did it for legacy instead of UEFI or something similar.
Have you tried going into the BIOS to perform a secure wipe directly from there? Many modern SSDs have that feature. Also, consider updating your BIOS on a clean PC just to ensure no malware is lurking there. It might help unlock the UEFI settings.
If the goal is just to wipe the hard drive and reload Linux, you can actually do it from the command prompt using DiskPart. It's a solid option if you're stuck in the boot process.
