Is 0.6 GB of RAM Usage Normal for an Idle Arch Linux System?

Hey everyone! I've been using Arch Linux with the Qtile window manager, and my system has 8 GB of RAM. Currently, I see about 5.6 GB available. I'm trying to optimize my setup, but it seems I've made a bit more customization than I intended, which has resulted in my system using around 0.6 GB of RAM even when it's idling. Does that sound normal? Should I consider further optimizations if I'm looking for better performance? I'm even willing to sacrifice animations and blur effects if necessary. Appreciate any advice!

It's actually pretty typical for your system to use around that much RAM while idle. Your computer is likely managing a few background tasks and caching files, which can help things load faster when you need them. Remember, having RAM in use isn't bad—it means your system is active and ready to perform optimally! Don't stress too much about that memory usage unless it's pushing towards 100%.

Exactly! A lot of people think unused RAM is a good thing, but it's actually just wasted. Let your system use what it needs!

It seems normal for a system like yours. Even at idle, your PC will utilize some RAM for quick access to frequently used files. Unless you're really noticing performance hits, it's best not to over-optimize.

Agreed! The system's memory management should keep things running nicely. If you’re happy with the performance, just enjoy your setup!

If everything is running smoothly, I wouldn't worry too much about your RAM usage. It's designed to be used, so if you're not experiencing slowdowns or issues, you're probably just fine! Full utilization can lead to better efficiency in some cases.
