I need some help with setting up OneDrive for a user who has both an office PC and a laptop. The issue is that OneDrive is syncing everything, including desktop shortcuts, across both devices, which is making the desktop look cluttered and confusing. Is there a better way to manage this?

OneDrive is designed to synchronize everything across devices, which seems to be causing your issue. If that's not what you need, you might want to consider other solutions. But I think your problem might stem from trying to avoid syncing items that aren't suited for both machines.
We use Intune to push a configuration that excludes .lnk files. It really helps in keeping the desktops clean and organized. You can also manage this from the SharePoint admin center, but be cautious as it may cause syncing errors for those shortcuts.
It sounds like you're looking to prevent desktop shortcuts from syncing. You can exclude .lnk files from OneDrive to avoid issues like duplicates on different devices. Check out Microsoft's guide on how to do that. Another option is to manage apps via Intune to keep them separate from OneDrive.
