Hey there! I'm working on a personal project for a D&D game, and I created a fillable PDF character sheet. I managed to add text boxes and forms using a PDF editor, but I want to share this with my friends through Google Docs so they can edit it during our games - trying to save some cash instead of using D&D Beyond! However, I discovered that while I can upload and share the PDF in Google Drive, it doesn't allow me to see or edit the forms and text boxes. Is there a way to make a PDF fillable form editable without using specific PDF editing software? Do I need to convert the sheet to a different file type, or tweak something in the PDF itself?

Did you accidentally set your PDF to 'read-only' or something similar? If that's the case, changing that setting could let you edit it. I was going to mention using Google Docs, but since you're running into issues there, why not try creating your document directly in Google Docs? You could even use a different format, like a spreadsheet, if it works better for your needs!
You can actually edit PDFs in Word now! Just right-click on the PDF and select 'Open with Word.' However, keep in mind it might not preserve the fields you added before, so you might have to manually add text boxes again. Give it a shot!
Really? That's great to know! I'll have to experiment with adding the text boxes again. Thanks for the tip!
I checked and couldn't find any 'read-only' settings; everything seemed editable. I might try remaking the fields directly in Google Docs with the PDF as a guide.
