How can I solve partition issues when trying to install Kubuntu?

I recently received an old laptop from a friend that has Windows 10 on it, but I'm looking to replace Windows with Kubuntu. This is my first time using Linux, and I'm having some trouble with the installation. I downloaded the Kubuntu ISO and used balenaEtcher to flash it onto an 8GB USB stick. After setting the USB as the boot priority in BIOS, I started the installation process. Everything was going smoothly until I reached a screen that said there are "no partitions to install on" and "there is not enough drive space"—it requires at least 8GB. I went back to Windows and created a 200GB partition on my 500GB C Drive, but even after this, the installer still shows those messages. I'm quite frustrated and sleep-deprived, and I hope to wake up to some potential solutions. Just as a note, I'm using Kubuntu version 25.10, and the partition I set is NTFS, since I couldn't format it as FAT32. I'm also open to dual-booting if necessary, but for now, I just want to get Kubuntu installed.

From the live USB, you should try using the partition manager in Kubuntu to delete all existing partitions on the drive. After that, start the installation process again. This usually resolves the problem. Just make sure that 'Secure Boot' is turned off in BIOS for a smoother installation process.

If you're still having issues, you can actually just install the base Ubuntu system and then add the Kubuntu desktop environment later. It's pretty straightforward with just a few commands after installation.

Honestly, the easiest route is to delete the partition you created for Kubuntu and just use the free space to create a new partition directly in Linux. The installer might not recognize your NTFS partition.
