How Can I Start My Journey as an Online Programmer or Freelancer?

I'm a computer science student heading into my second year this September. So far, I've done some basic coding in C++, like generating a maze and programming a list management system with structs and classes. I'm really eager to start working on real programming tasks online or as a freelancer, but I'm not sure if my skills are enough yet to earn money. How do I begin this journey, and what should I focus on learning to make myself marketable as a freelance programmer?

It’s great that you’re looking to start freelancing! However, you might want to think from a client's perspective. Ask yourself: would I pay someone to create a maze-solving program? Probably not. Right now, your skills seem pretty basic for freelance work. If a client wanted a secure web app for processing payments, you’d need to know more than what you currently have. I’d suggest checking platforms like Fiverr for small projects, but just be wary—you might find that you’re up against more seasoned programmers. Focus on building your skills further before jumping in. What kind of coding projects would you actually pay for?

Freelancing gigs for programmers are pretty limited if you're just starting out. You could try sites like Fiverr, but remember you'll be competing with people who have a lot more experience. It might be tough to find gigs unless the tasks are super simple. Focus on enhancing your skills and building a portfolio to showcase your work.
