How can I stop getting disconnected from WiFi?

I'm having some issues with my WiFi. It's usually fast, but I keep getting disconnected, especially when I'm gaming on my laptop. My dad thinks it might be because we have too many devices connected, and this happens a lot more on weekends when everyone in the neighborhood is online. We've tried using a WiFi extender to improve the connection, and I'm also using a LAN cable, even though it's pretty old. Unfortunately, the disconnections continue. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Consider using a guest network for devices like Alexa or Google Home. This way, your main network is freed up for your primary devices, which might help reduce disconnections.

Thanks everyone for the help! I’ll talk to my dad about these suggestions and keep you updated on how it goes.

Try changing the channel that your WiFi router is using. You might need to experiment a bit with different channels to find one that works better.

What’s the total number of devices connected to the WiFi at once? Also, how old is your router? It might be a good idea to replace that old Ethernet cable too; they're not expensive and could help with the connection.

We can only speculate based on what you've shared, but it might be an issue with the WiFi signal itself, or it could be your internet provider having problems. To check, plug your laptop directly into the router and see if you still get disconnected. If you still have issues, it's likely not a WiFi problem. Also, check your speeds at [fast.com](http://fast.com) to compare speeds when you're on WiFi versus directly connected.

It's definitely possible that too many devices are connected, especially if you're using a shared connection. Ask your dad about your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and whether he pays for the service. If you have a cable company, there might be too many people on your node, which could explain the disconnections. If so, it would be worth reporting this to your ISP to get it sorted out.
