How can I stop my MSI laptop from overheating warnings during gaming?

I've got an MSI laptop that keeps giving me overheating warnings about every two hours while gaming. The screen flashes black, which is super frustrating because it makes my games unplayable. I need to restart my laptop to get it to work again, but I can't figure out how to fix this issue. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it might be time for some maintenance! If you've had your laptop for a while, consider cleaning out any dust and replacing the thermal paste. If it's pretty new, I’d recommend taking it to a shop for them to check it out.

I should note that this happens when I'm gaming, and before the warning, my CPU temp is usually under 70°C. Right before the warning kicks in, it jumps to almost 90°C and then the screen goes black.
