I came home to find that my Windows 10 Intel NUC is trying to push the Windows 11 update, even though I really don't want it. The usual options to ignore it are gone, and it seems Microsoft is forcing the upgrade on me. I've tried following a guide to stop the update using the registry settings, but it hasn't worked at all. I'm really hesitant to restart my computer and find out if the changes took effect. Has anyone successfully blocked this update, or is there a better method I should consider? I had a rough experience when I was forced to switch to Windows 10, and I want to avoid that happening again.

If you're really struggling with blocking updates, have you considered switching to Linux? You could test it using a live USB without making any changes to your current system. Options like Mint or Fedora are pretty user-friendly!
There are actually two updates they push: one for security and another cumulative patch that you can't avoid. I think I noticed some weird issues with my NVMe drives after the update began rolling out, but I haven't dug deep into it yet. It might not be the same problem you're dealing with, but just a heads up!
Wait, what does that mean for my drives? Am I in trouble?
You could try setting up a group policy to block updates to new versions. I followed a guide that lets my Windows 10 still get security updates but prevents it from upgrading to Windows 11. Just keep in mind, this works for Pro versions and above. Also, I set a policy to stop Windows from auto-downloading updates until I manually check for them, which has made managing updates much easier!
That sounds great! Just to clarify, does this method mean you won’t receive any of the newer updates unless you choose to?
Honestly, you might just want to update to Windows 11. I did it today, and everything's exactly the same as before! Like, I feel it’s no big deal at all.
Yeah, but it keeps trying to force me into it! I don’t want a repeat of the mess I had with upgrading to Windows 10.

Not looking to change OS right now, but thanks for the suggestion!
