How Can I Test Ethernet Bandwidth to My Router?

I'm looking for a simple way to measure the Ethernet bandwidth of my connection to an ASUS router. Both my Mac and Windows machines are wired to the router, and I'd prefer using command line options without installing any software on either the router or the computers. Ideally, I'd like to use built-in commands, but if that's not possible, I'd settle for downloadable command line tools I can keep on a USB stick. I'm really looking for a single command that works on both Windows and macOS terminals for this test, without any extra clutter.

Testing bandwidth directly from a computer to the router can be tricky because you're technically limited by what the router can report. Ethernet speed is generally set by the hardware like switches or cables rather than a simple terminal command. Usually, you'd rely on tools within a managed switch or firewall for precise measurements. If you're looking for something portable, I recommend using an Ethernet cable tester instead!
