I recently unwrapped a new computer, and I need to get all my data from my old Windows 11 PC onto it. What's the best and easiest way to transfer everything so I don't lose anything?

What exactly are you trying to transfer? If it’s files, you can definitely move everything. Microsoft even has guides that show you how to transfer files, either by USB or using OneDrive. You might want to check how to sync your browser settings to ensure they carry over too. For installed applications, you’ll need to reinstall them on your new machine, so make a list of any important ones.

The simplest method is to connect both computers to the same internet network. Share the folders containing your data from the old computer and then access them from the new one using the 'Network' option in Windows Explorer to copy everything over.

If you're looking for speed, remove the hard drive from the old computer and plug it directly into the new one to transfer files.

I personally think disconnecting the drive is the best way. It’s much quicker and more secure than uploading everything online and dealing with potential data loss through the internet. Plus, you can just plug it into an external enclosure and transfer your data without worrying about connection issues!

Yeah, just snag that old drive and connect it! You’ll finish the transfer in no time.

I recommend using a thumb drive for this transfer. It’s usually easier than swapping hard drives, which might cause permission issues. Just find a large enough thumb drive, copy the necessary files to it, and then plug it into your new computer to drag and drop everything. Consider labeling it with the month and year for future reference!
