How Can I Transition from Frontend to Backend Development?

Hey everyone! I've been doing frontend development for about 4 years now, mainly working with technologies like jQuery, Bootstrap, and more recently, Next.js. I've come to realize that frontend work, especially anything heavily focused on UI, isn't really what I enjoy. I feel like my technical skills haven't really grown due to the types of projects I've been involved in. I'm eager to dive into backend development, particularly with Java Spring and microservices. However, I'm unsure about the best way to transition, especially since my current experience and salary (around 5 LPA) don't match most typical backend roles. Should I be focusing on personal projects, getting certifications, seeking internships, or perhaps something else? I'd love to hear any advice, resources, or personal experiences you might have. Thanks a lot!

You might want to check if your current company has any openings for backend roles. Many people I've seen transition have stayed within their companies. But if that’s not an option, don’t worry—your frontend experience is valuable, and you could apply for backend roles elsewhere even if you don’t meet every requirement perfectly.

Unfortunately, my company doesn’t have any backend roles available. Our system is quite outdated and primarily focused on front-end work. How can I effectively leverage my existing skills to find a more suitable position?
