I'm planning to switch from Windows 11 to Zorin OS on my laptop since I've had a good experience tinkering with it on a virtual machine. I know how to set it up, but I'm wondering if there's a way to install it without having to reinstall and log back into all my apps and websites. I'm new to Linux, so any advice would be appreciated!

When you format your machine for a new OS, you typically lose all your files and logins. It’s crucial to back up your important data to an external drive or cloud storage before starting. You might consider preserving your "/home" directory, but it may not be worth it unless you really have your heart set on keeping everything from a broken system. If you're going through all this trouble, definitely keep multiple backups—it's better to be safe than sorry!
Most Linux distros, including Zorin, typically have a backup option to create snapshots of your system that you can convert into a disk image. This way, you can just transfer it onto your new drive. I use MX Linux, which has a specific tool for this, so it’s likely Zorin offers something similar. Check it out!
You can actually clone your VM image and write that to your laptop's hard drive if that’s what you're aiming for. I haven’t done it myself, but searching "vm image to bare metal install" could give you some good guidance. Also, there are tools out there that let you back up and restore your "/home" directory, which could help if you want to keep your user data intact while installing Zorin.
Thanks, but my main concern is that Windows is still my primary OS, and I want to keep all my files and logins before I do a fresh install of Zorin. I don’t have anything saved on my VM image.

Much appreciated, thank you.
