Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my 2017 PC build to get Windows 11 running smoothly. Right now, I've successfully bypassed the processor and TPM requirements using a custom installer and added a TPM module to my motherboard. However, I'm experiencing some significant slowness with Windows 11, even though it runs perfectly on my other devices—like an old Surface Pro 3—and is fast with Windows 10 in a dual boot setup.
Here's my setup on PC Partpicker: [link](https://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/LArdPHantom/saved/#view=GD33mG). I'm aiming to spend as little as possible, primarily considering upgrades to my processor and motherboard. Here are my main concerns:
- Will a newer i7 be sufficient for Windows 11?
- Should I consider Ryzen for better value in 2026?
- Will a Ryzen processor fit my current motherboard?
- Is my older DDR RAM going to be a bottleneck on a new motherboard?
- Will I need a new power supply?
Thanks in advance for your help!

From what you've described, you shouldn’t have any major issues with Windows 11. If you're considering a new i7, it will definitely work, but keep in mind that your CPU is on the edge of what’s supported. As for Ryzen, if you're looking for better value as we approach 2026, it might be worthwhile. AMD typically offers good performance for the price, especially with DDR4.
You'll need a new motherboard for Ryzen, and honestly, even if you stick with DDR4, upgrading your RAM could help. Just be aware—staying on a DDR4 platform may limit your overall performance, though there's potential for cost savings if you go that route.
Honestly, your current PC should run Windows 11 without any issues. It sounds like there’s a different underlying problem rather than it just being underpowered. I suggest starting off with a debloat script or tools like ShutUp10 to disable some of Windows 11’s background processes—it could really speed things up for you!
Thanks for your input! I did go ahead and install one of those 'Lite' versions of Windows 11. I just need to check if I ran a debloat script I’ve used before.

Really appreciate the detailed response! I’ve installed a ‘lite’ version of Windows 11 but should definitely check for a good debloating option. The CPU and motherboard info helps a ton! Is there a website for comparing AMD vs. Intel CPUs in terms of price and performance?
