Hey everyone! I'm diving into AI-related experiments like Stable Diffusion and am looking to upgrade my PC to get the best performance out of them. A while ago, I followed a budget PC build tutorial and ended up with an AMD graphics card, but I've heard Nvidia is a much better choice for this kind of work.
Here are my current specs:
**GPU**: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
**CPU**: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
**RAM**: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600
**Motherboard**: ASRock B450M Pro4 R2.0
**SSD**: WD Black SN770 1TB
**Power Supply**: MSI MAG A550BN 550 Watt
**Case**: DeepCool MATREXX 40 3FS
I'm hoping to get some recommendations on how to upgrade my GPU for AI tasks while keeping my costs around $500, although I might stretch that a bit if necessary. Thanks in advance!

For your use case, maximum VRAM is what you should aim for. If you can find the 5060 Ti 16 GB at a decent price, it’s a great option due to higher VRAM. The 5070 is speedy but has less VRAM, which might limit your options for high-quality models. If you're serious about AI, consider saving up for a card with even more VRAM down the road, like the 3090 or 4090.
Just a thought - you could still use your AMD card for Stable Diffusion, but it might require you to jump through some hoops with custom setups. If you want to keep costs down, a used RTX 3060 12GB could be a budget-friendly option to consider too. Easier setup and solid performance without breaking the bank!
If you’re focusing on AI, you want to prioritize getting a strong GPU. For a $500 budget, I’d recommend looking into the RTX 5070 or a used 4070 Ti Super or even 4080, since they have more VRAM. You can also sell your current RX 5700 XT to help fund the upgrade. With your current CPU, you would likely be fine sticking with it as AI tasks rely heavily on the GPU.
Thanks for the insight! I heard some mixed reviews about the 5070, so I think I’ll lean towards the used last-gen options you mentioned.
I appreciate the suggestion! Could you clarify what you mean by 3060 12GB, like the MSI GeForce RTX 3060?
