How Can I Use Dolphin as My Default File Manager Across All Apps in Kubuntu?

Hey everyone! I'm currently trying out both Kubuntu and Mint, and I think I'm leaning more toward Kubuntu. One thing I really love is the file upload experience in the Falkon browser, which uses Dolphin as its file dialog and shows thumbnails for easy previewing. However, when I'm using applications like GIMP, the file manager doesn't provide the same experience, and I find it frustrating to click through each file to see a preview. Is there a way for a newbie like me to set Dolphin as the default file manager across all applications, or any alternative solution? Thanks for any help you can offer!

If you're looking for more KDE Plasma-specific applications, there's definitely a migration page in the Linux4noobs wiki that might help! It has tips on switching over and could guide you on apps that are more in line with what you're looking for. Just remember to stick to applications that support the KDE/Plasma environment for consistency!

It sounds like you're mixing up file managers and file dialogs. The file dialogs you see in applications are part of the app itself and typically can't be swapped out. Falkon and Dolphin are both based on the KDE/Plasma framework, so they have that similar look and function. If you want that experience across your apps, try using more KDE/Plasma apps. Just a heads-up, though, GIMP uses the GTK framework, so you won't be able to change that behavior easily on Mint, which leans heavily on GTK apps.
