How Do I Choose a Programming Specialization at 25?

Hey everyone! I'm currently facing a big decision in my life. I've graduated from medical school and am working as a doctor, but honestly, it's just not fulfilling for me. The pay is lower compared to other countries, so I'm thinking about switching careers to programming. I've been toying with this idea for a while now, but I keep putting it off. The biggest hurdle for me is the vast number of specializations in programming. I don't really know what each specialization entails or which ones are in demand right now. So, I'm looking for advice on how to choose a specialization and whether it's worth it to jump into programming at 25 without any coding experience.

You can check out different programming roles and their paths on websites like Roadmap.sh. Those will lay out what specializations exist. Just remember, the programming field is quite saturated, and while it can be rewarding, it may not always be as fun as you expect. So think about this before making a final decision!

Unlike medicine, there are generally fewer specializations in programming. Don’t stress too much about picking one right away; many people switch between roles! Just start learning the basics and you'll figure out what you like as you go.

Honestly, there's a huge need for doctors in tech roles, especially in areas like health IT. Your background could give you a unique edge. But if you decide to code, just dive in and see where it takes you!

Think about your long-term goals. What do you enjoy most? It could help guide your choice. And don't forget, the world still needs doctors! Just think twice about leaving that behind if you’re really passionate about it.

You’re a doctor who’s worried about too many specializations in programming? There are honestly just a handful! If you can handle the complexities of medicine, switching to tech should be much easier!

Here's a quick breakdown: you mainly have frontend (user interfaces) and backend (server-side logic). You could also look into full-stack roles that combine both. With your medical background, health IT could be a great niche to explore.
